Data Usage

Last updated: August 2026

This page explains what MyFolks collects, how it's used, and what control you have over it.

Signing in with Google

Signing in with Google is handled entirely by Google — MyFolks never sees or stores your Google password. We receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google — the picture is shown next to your name in the site header, and nothing else is done with it. We don't request or receive access to your Gmail, Drive, Contacts, or any other Google service.

MyFolks is operated by MyFolks LLC, a California limited liability company. “We” and “us” below mean MyFolks LLC.

What we store

Activity logs are deleted after 90 days. Your messages and account are not affected by that — only the record of how the site was used.

How it's used

Your messages and facts are used to power your conversations — so a Folk can respond in character and remember relevant things you've shared with it. Each Folk only remembers what you've told that specific Folk — it doesn't have access to facts gathered by your other Folks.

Who sees your data

Your messages are sent to our AI provider to generate replies; this is necessary for the product to work at all. We currently use Anthropic, and may use another provider such as OpenAI — which one is a platform-wide setting, not something you choose. Beyond that, we do not sell or share your data with third parties, and we never share anything with a business on your behalf. The one exception is entirely yours to make: if a Folk recommends a business, you can choose to send that business selected details and a message. Nothing goes without you picking it and confirming, and once sent it can't be recalled — though it's deleted along with everything else if you delete your account. We may use your data internally to operate, maintain, and improve MyFolks and your experience.

How long we keep it

Messages and facts are currently retained indefinitely — we don't automatically delete old conversations. You can delete individual facts yourself at any time (see below); full conversation history isn't yet self-service deletable.

Your controls

Visit "My Data" (in the menu) to see every fact ever stored about you, across all your Folks, and delete anything you don't want remembered. That page is a complete, transparent record — an individual Folk itself only ever draws on what you've told that Folk directly. There's currently no self-service "delete my entire account" option — if you want your account and all associated data removed, contact us and we'll take care of it manually.

A note on sensitive information

We don't currently have an automatic filter that detects or removes highly sensitive details like Social Security numbers or credit card numbers from what you share. Please avoid typing that kind of information into a conversation.

Minors and Parents/Guardians

MyFolks is intended for adults aged 18 and over; we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we delete it if we learn we have. Accounts whose stated birth year doesn't confirm the user is at least 18 are removed.

Parents and guardians: if you believe someone under 18 has created an account, or you'd like to review or delete their data, contact us at support@myfolks.app and we'll take care of it.

Changes to this page

We may update this page as the product changes. We'll update the date above when we do.
